A wise man once said, "For everything lost something is gained, and for everything gained something is lost." That famous statement, by Ralph Waldo Emerson, illustrates a very important fact of life. Throughout my life I have experienced several life changing events that I have gained or lost something as a result.
The day that I moved into Georgia seems like a very significant life-changing event in my life. Before I moved to Atlanta I lived in a suburb outside of Chicago named Bolingbrook. I moved here in August before my 4th grade school year and I have noticed many changes from day one. Since moving to Georgia I have gained many positive attributes and also many new friends. When I left Chicago I lost very many friends and I left behind numerous family members as well. Moving to Georgia helped me gain many friends but also lose many friends as well.
Another one of my life changing events occurred when a baseball player that I had played with in my area died. The death of John Ashmore had a very significant effect on me. That night watching the game, watching him get hit, reacting to the fact that it he seemed seriously injured, finding out about his death the next day, each reaction had a very large effect on my life. After learning he had died the next morning, it became clear that baseball is not the safest thing. Although I never became afraid to bat, I have become much more aware in the game and that in the game at any possible moment it could happen to me. It made me realize that anything can happen and not to take anything for granted.
The first day that I walked into high school seems like another life-changing event that has greatly effected my life. So far high school seems like a very giant step in my path to adulthood.
