Fifty years ago, artists were often imagined to be poverty-stricken, radical thinkers who lived in bohemian disarray. Parents were extremely reluctant to allow their so sons or daughters to take up artistic careers. Art as a hobby was acceptable, but never as a career.
Today, creative visual artists are respected professionals. Career artists help shape the look and design of the world, provide entertainment, and enrich our lives while making a comfortable, exciting living.
To become successful in this field, I must first start with a college education. During the first two years of college, I plan on taking numerous classes of art. The next two years will be spent on the beginning assembly of my portfolio. Once I get out of college I would like to start my own Graphic Design Studio (commercial art), where I'll be designing professional business cards, billboards, menus, book covers, and many other items. After five years of hard work and saving, I will invest the money I earn into opening my own firm, where I hope to become an entrepreneur, selling ideas to various multi-million dollar companies such as Nike.
I've found that the meaning of art goes far beyond any technique or style, and that for each individual, art is a reflection of his or her own unique identity. I am only now beginning to realize how much more there is to art than I had ever previously imagined. I now realize that I will need a lot more education if I am to become successful in this very challenging and important career.
