There were many people involved in the Russian Revolution including Leon Trotsky, Karl Marx, Joseph Stalin, Vladimir Lenin and Russian Czar Nicholas II. Marx theory was that communism would correct all problems in the future. Little did they know the communist idea of people working to promote the general will over individual will failed to justify that there would be an ample amount of goods provided to society. Communism, when put in the real world ended up being nothing like Marx expected. Marx had expected for communism to be good and solve everything, then again when having a Classless Society (no groups of people) canceling out religious groups, clubs, cults, and secret societies how could communism be good? Classless Society wasn't the only thing Marx and his government did they stole factories and land from the Bourgeoisie and offered them the same amount and they gave the Proletarians and if the Bourgeoisie denied this offer they would be punished. Unlike in the book when Irina was sent to Siberia for painting communist signs, execution was the choice of punishment. Most people like Kira's family who were of Bourgeoisie background didn't know how to live when Marx took over and put communism into action. Many people also died during the communist era due to starvation and diseases like Galina who died of Tuberculosis because her family could not afford the medicine. Leo, Kira's secret lover also caught Tuberculosis, but had ways of retrieving the medicine in time to heal himself before it got to bad. Leo was receiving money from Kira who was getting it from Andrea (a communist leader) by acting as if she loved him so she could get the money to give to Leo, the person she really loved.
