Diary entry 1 – The plane crash
             We were flying over the Canadian woods in a single engine plane when the pilot had a massive heart attack. Well at first he was rubbing his shoulder and letting off gas then before I knew it he lurched back into the seat in agonizing pain. I quickly realised that he was having a heart attack. I felt so helpless. Within minutes he was dead and I was alone in the middle of nowhere. My only chance of survival was to fly the plane myself. I couldn't do any thing. My hands and head just froze. After hitting some turbulence my mind got working again. Luckily the pilot had shown me some basic flying skills so I tried to fly the plane myself but the control wheel was so sensitive I couldn't get it in the right position. I tried the radio but nothing seemed to work. The fuel gauge was on low. I knew nothing about dials but kept radioing every ten minutes. There were no clearings, no roads, no trails and I had to land. So I decided to land the plane in a lake rather than crash into the trees. Then without warning the engine died and the thought of death crossed my mind and made me sick. I spotted a lake and braced myself for a crash. The wing got wrenched off and the plane slammed into the lake. I was scared and could hear my own screams of fear and pain as the plane sank. I pulled myself clear of the seatbelt, swam to the surface and made for the shore. After all the screaming and crying, I was conscious of the stabbing pain in my legs and head. Alone, wet and in pain, I was thankful to be still alive. But I am still alone, helpless and with no food. The thought of death makes me scared.
             It has been tough going for the couple of days with only lake water to drink and little food and hunger pains have been tearing away at my stomach. A few days ago I found berry bushes not far from the lake's edge, which was my first food.
