With the introduction of ISP's such as America Online, Compuserve, general usage of the internet skyrocketed. These companies made it easy to search the web, chat, and use e-mail.
The internet was not always as easy as technology has made it today. Back in the 1960's the U.S. Department of Defense assigned the ARPA to experiment with linking DOD and military research contractors. ARPAnet was successful and in 1971 sent the first e-mail message "Testing 1-2-3". This was a major breakthrough in technology and would soon change the world forever. By 1971 ARPA would have 100 hosts and, In 1984 Domain Name Servers are introduced and the internet has 1,000 hosts. By now E-Mail was growing at a phenomenal rate. In 1987 the net had 10,000 hosts and jumped to 100,000 in just 2 years. 1992 was the year that the internet started getting a lot of public attention. There were 50 web sites worldwide and 1,000,000 hosts. This was the wave of the future and people started to recognize this.
