The Chinese mafia is one of the oldest and most powerful organizations in the world. Since 200 years before Christ, it has been controlling everything from business to the individual, yet it masquerades as an organization for the people. For the past few decades agencies have been trying to battle the organized crime syndicate, but little ground has been made. The Triads have gone through many changes as time has progressed. First starting as a rebellion, a crime ring, and now a powerful force that has many agencies trying to track its every move.
In the beginning, the group now known as the Triads was formed to overthrow the Han Dynasty. The group would help the people fight against mistreatments done by the government. The battles triads started against the government eventually result in retreat to the Shaolin temples. After retreating to the temples, the temples were ordered burned. Only five members of the triads escaped with his life. These five members are to be the ancestors of the modern-day Triads. The adventures completed by these men are to remember in ritual during initiation rituals.
The group operates on a simple hierarchy system. Usually, the older member is the boss and the younger members do the work. The younger members pay tribute and respect to the older members and this is repaid with protections and advice. The rank system is based on numbers starting with 4 (the directions). The group consists of about 6 ranks. These ranks consist of the president, the vice president, generals, accountants, messengers, and finally foot soldiers.
The overthrowing of the Qing dynasty led to the eventual end of the triads as a force to help the people. When the Qing dynasty fell, the groups became split on how to carry on with future activities. Some members opened trading companies, labor unions, or even martial arts associations.
