It is that time of year again, October is upon us and this is the time of year were heroes are made, who stand up and who will go home. It will be very simple for the these eight teams (Yankess, Angels, Twins, Oakland, Braves, Giants, Cards and the defending champs the Diamondbacks.) Win and your chance at the title will continue or lose and you dream will put on the back burner for at least another 6 months.
A perfect three for three on my last set of prediction so lets see what we can do for you guys this time.
First up we have the Twins and the Oakland A's. There's no better top three in the Baseball then the A's Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder and Barry Zito (they'll pitch in that order) were a combined 19-0 since August 18th. The group has an impressive October pedigree to boot -- Mulder's 2.45 career postseason ERA is the highest of the bunch. Added advantage: The Twins have really struggled big time against left-handers all season. For the Twins come out on top they will need to win a match up against one of these left-handers (Zito or Mulder).
Torii Hunter (29 HRs and 94 RBIs, both team highs) is the heart ands soul of the order, but he slumped since the All-star break. The rest of the lineup is mainly left-handed hitters who feast on poor right-handed pitching. Good left handed pitcher, however, pretty much make leadoff hitter Jacques Jones and DH David Ortiz non-factor. No. 2 batter Christian Guzman, a switch hitter will be a huge factor; he can use his speed if given the chance to. The Twins don't become patience at the plate or hit the long ball out, but they did lead the AL in doubles so they need to string together some huge and I mean huge innings to score some runs. This series could and should be a very nice one to watch, Each game should be tight, But when it is all said and done in this one the Oakland A's will come out of this best of 5 series mainly because of it pitching with a 3-2 series win.
