I still remember the day my grandmother walked for the first time in 3 years. Every single thing that happened seemed so great. Even the noise the floor made as she walked was astounding. I watched her every move as she made her first steps. At that moment I felt like the happiest person alive. Many people view walking as such a simple every day phenomena and don't appreciate the simple things in life. I have to admit at first I never cared either, but, along with my grandmother, I went through obstacles and I learned many lessons in my life.
Even though I am an only child, I am part of a very big family. In one of our family gatherings, I heard the worst news I would ever hear: "Grandma has been diagnosed with Parkinson Disease". At that moment my world shattered. I didn't know what to say, how to act, or even what to think. About two months later we heard she had a stroke and her kidney had been damaged, so there was no option of surgery. I felt depressed and didn't know who to turn to. Then I realized that the best person to talk to was my grandma herself. We went through it together and she always made me feel loved.
She had to go to a rehabilitation center, and there I learned the biggest lesson in my life. I saw a young lady who looked very beautiful and full of life. I wondered why she was in a rehabilitation center and, when I found out, it broke my heart. A bookcase had fallen on her and now she wouldn't be able to do any daily activity without the help of someone. Her life has been basically destroyed. In that moment I realized, that my life and that of those around me, is precious.
