What can be done to control the proliferation of guns in the US?
Guns are a main cause of death in the United States. Approximately 75 people each week are killed or wounded because of guns. There are many ways to go about bringing that number down, but which way would be most effective? In other words, "What can be done to control the proliferation of guns in the US?"
Some people think that the absolute destruction of all guns is the solution. This, however, is inconceivable. It would be virtually impossible to destroy every gun, both registered and unregistered. Others think that only certain people should be allowed to keep their guns, and the rest be destroyed. If this is put into action, who gets to decide who gets to keep their gun and who doesn't? It is suggested that only police officers and other law enforcement agencies should be allowed to keep them. This may not be the best idea. There have been "bad cop" stories before, and a "bad cop" could get their hands on a gun. Also, if the proposal to get rid of all guns was passed, it might be true to say that next there would have to be a proposal to destroy knives. After that, who knows? It could be illegal to have a baseball bat one day. If guns are taken out of circulation, people who want to bad enough will find something else to cause destruction with.
It may be true to say that if it was harder for people to get their hands on guns, less injuries and/or deaths would occur. Things such as a waiting period to receive guns and background checks to keep guns out of the hands of former criminals need to be strengthened. If the guns that were owned by Rebel's mother were taken away after her first offense, she wouldn't have been able to shoot the three year old.
Another way to bring the amount of casualties related to guns down is more advanced safety devices. Gun companies are on the right
