Since the day I came to the United States, I was told that this is the land full of opportunities. At first, I didn't really know what that meant because I was only about fourteen-I wasn't very open-minded back then. Then, my attending at schools somehow explains and shows me more than I'd like to know.
Back in high school, I couldn't figure out what to do with my future until I entered into the 11th grade. To be a doctor was what my family had been talking about because a doctor would make my family proud. That could be not true because being in the medical field is not the only way to feel proud. Proud is what one thinks of himself/herself. With the help of the guidance counselor, I chose to leave my options open because there were so much careers that I couldn't narrow down to a particular one. Even in college, I was still undecided in my major during my first year. My EOPS counselor advised me that quick decision often leads to what you don't like. This country is truly full of opportunities. One person can practically do anything if he/she has a heart for it.
Even though I haven't decided about my major, I still take most of the required classes for transferring, especially math classes. One day, I came over to my friend's and happened to see his brother working at home. He was doing some software programming for his company. As I observed him, he practically could do anything with the computer. For some reason, one thought striked me as odd, what if I want to be a computer programmer? That was the time I chose computer science as my major, and my friend's brother as my second counselor.
